How Clean Is Your Sand?

Sand play areas provide a fun and engaging space for children, but over time, they can become dirty and unsafe. Contamination occurs in two key ways—visible hazards and invisible dangers—both of which require regular attention to maintain a safe environment.

Visible Hazards

Foreign objects can accumulate in sand play areas, including:
 Rubbish and litter
 Broken glass and sharp objects
 Needles and cigarette butts
 Rocks and other debris

Each of these poses a potential safety risk and must be removed promptly.

Invisible Dangers

Even if the sand looks clean, harmful bacteria and viruses can still be present. Contaminants such as E. Coli, Salmonella, Hepatitis A, and Noroviruses can build up over time, posing a health risk to children who may put their hands in their mouths after playing in the sand.
